What a weekend it was with the weather brightening up and the Open Championship providing another dramatic finish, proving it is never over till the last putt drops (or unfortunately for Adam Scott, didn’t drop). Royal Lytham, although not right on the coast, is a traditional links with the bunkers proving to be a real hazard (maybe this will be the way more courses are designed in the future). Congratulations to Ernie Els, who played some amazing golf over the last nine holes and is another victory for us oldies.
Skerry Chalice The Skerry Chalice provided some of the best scoring we have seen all year with 26 players scoring 36 points or better! In third place with a very good score of 43 points was Jack Edwards; the runner up was Brian Strand, also with 43 points, but claiming second position on countback. The winner with a fantastic score of 45 points was Robbie Earl, who shot two over par playing off 11! Well done, Robbie! | |
Scratch Cup
The Scratch Cup this year was a closely fought affair with some great scores all the way down the field. Owen Davis finished third with a gross 71, James Reeson came in with a 70 to be pipped at the post by Simon Burns, who also shot 70, winning the event on count back. Congratulations to Simon! Connor Hehir shot a gross 74/68 to claim the Overall Nett Prize.

Charity Day
This year’s charity day took place last Friday; in the build-up the weather was not behaving, but come the day everything fell into place and thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make it a fantastic day.
It was great to see sponsorship banners on the course and the buzz of members and guests enjoying their golfing day, especially with a two-tee start, where the banter on the first tee after playing nine holes is always worth listening to.
As always, the Auction in the evening was very well supported with fantastic donations, so thank you to everyone and congratulations to all the winning bids. We are sure there will be many a tale about the things you do and items you have won.
This weekend will be another busy one at the club so we hope to see you here at some point Enjoy your golf.
