County Match Results
Grace Norman: I am delighted to announce we are through to the 3rd round of this competition after a dazzling display at GOG MAGOGS. Our triumphant team: Fay Allison/Cath Emery; Mo Poole/Shirley Osborne and Roz Irons/May Burn overcame a very strong team to win 2-1. A real scalp from our victorious Indians! The reward is a home tie against Ely.
Jean Wilkinson
The first match of this league competition took place away to GIRTON. In a hard fought but friendly atmosphere, I am very proud to announce that from the 7 matches played we won 3 and halved one. This is a great start to this prestigious comp. We were runners up last year so I am hoping for one place better this year!! My thanks go to Elaine Cardwell for organising all the girls and ensuring we have a fantastic team spirit. Also, well done to all the players: Lynda Hall, Fay Allison, Cath Emery, Sally Palmer, Anne Roberts, Katie Dixon and Sally Acton. Thanks also to the caddies for all their support.
Bourn
On the 12th May we had a friendly match away to Bourn. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and despite the poor state of the greens we had a most enjoyable time. Unfortunately we were beaten 3-1 but all matches went to at least the 16th hole, so we did not give up without a fight. Thanks go to all the ladies who kindly signed up for this match and here's to a good golfing season in our ladies friendlies.
Bourn Again
Sunday 15th May saw us being Bourn again! A home mixed match saw our men and ladies of Brampton having a more successful outcome, winning 4 ½ to 3 ½ Following a well prepared cooked breakfast enjoyed by all, the games commenced. Stand in Men's Captain for the day (Brian Strand) partnered Lady Captain May and the 1st win was secured on the 17th green. As each partnership came in it was noted that all matches were played in the best of spirits, but the Brampton Bunch were too strong on the day. Thanks to everyone who signed up early (Julie/Ray Miller, Jude/David Thompson and Sarah/David Rennie) and to those of you who filled in with only a few days to go (Cathryn/Steve Webb, Fay/Colin Allison, Debbie Wastling and Roz Irons). Your continued support in these enjoyable mixed matches is much appreciated.
All Winners
Saturday 14th May saw the annual battle for the All Winners trophy. As I pointed out to our ladies, to qualify for this competition, we are 'all winners'. On a calm and sunny day the course was set up for great scores. However, golf is a game of unpredictability and the leader in the clubhouse early on continued to be just that. Many congratulations go to Cath Emery who defended her title in fantastic style, with 36 points. The lady Captain May, presented her with the customary trophy, but whether she had a sixth sense or not, May then rewarded Cath with a bottle of wine and a can of 'WINALOT' dog food. Cath has since become vegetarian!!
Scratch Match
On Tuesday 24th Brampton played Ramsey Golf Club in a scratch match at Ramsey. Well Done to the team on winning the overall match with a 4-2 win. The matches were very close with James Reeson & Danny Loveday winning 1up and Mark King & Adam Morley winning 2up. It was a tough match and great to come out with a win in some cold and windy conditions. Good Luck to the team in their next match against Saffron Walden.
James Reeson Wins Again!
Well done to James who won the Midland Closed tournament at Hinkley on the 21st May. With an elite field of Midlands bests, James scored rounds of 67 and 76 for a 143 total (+1), in rainy and blustery conditions, which won him the event by a shot. This gets his handicap down to +4! Also Brampton won the team championship with James score combined with Owen Davies score. Well done boys! Both of them are playing Lagonda this week at Gog Magog, good luck!
