Ladies Open
Thursday 26th May saw an onslaught in the car park of 76 ladies all geared up and ready to go for our Ladies Open. The forecast, weather wise was not great but someone looked down on us and the afternoon was steeped in warm sunshine.
The course looked fantastic and thanks to Nick, the pin positions were in 'friendly' positions. The comments from all ladies was how much they enjoyed their day, will be buying balls on EBay in readiness for next year and were so grateful to the ball spotters on our most difficult holes.
Thanks go to Linda Christian for coordinating the cake makers as this has always been one of our biggest asset for returnees. Also, the 'David Bailey' of the ladies section, Lesley Andrews ensured we had photographic evidence of the day. She was superseded by my vice Captain Roz who photographed the prize winners and supported me throughout. We have a fantastic ladies section and without all their efforts with regard to leaving no stone unturned, culminated in a very successful day.
The Ladies at Brampton should be very proud of what they achieved and a special mention goes to Kristina and Sarah in the office who worked tirelessly to ensure all targets were met.
I am very lucky to work with such dedicated people.
Here's to a great golfing year and the BPGC ladies Open certainly put our name on the map as the place to go in future!
Kind regards,
May
Millennium Trophy
Cambridgeshire Past Captains played their Annual Millennium Trophy Competition at St.Neots Golf Club recently and the competition was won by Alan Wood from Brampton Park with 37 points on a very tricky, wet and thick rough grass course.
Alan's score was impressive with rain virtually throughout the day.
The Millennium Trophy was donated by Peter Collier Captain of the Past Captains Society in millennium year 2000. Peter was a Life Member of St.Ives and member at Brampton Park. He was also Captain of Cambridgeshire Past Captains Society in 2000. Alan is the first member from Brampton Park to win the trophy and it was very pleasing for me as Captain of the Society this year, to make the presentation.
It is also significant for Alan to win the trophy as he used to play golf regularly with Peter's late brother David at Macclesfield Golf Club and also his nephew Roger Collier. Peter started his career as a Chartered Accountant at a Practice in Macclesfield which was owned by a late Uncle of Alan. Also, Peter and Alan are alumni of the Kings School Macclesfield, and one of Peter's sons was in the same class as Alan.
Alan recalls friendships and some good memories between the families. Alan also told me that when he was offered work in this area one of the first things he did was to contact Peter to see what Golf Club he recommended and he suggested that Alan join Brampton Park a new Club which had just opened, and as they say 'the rest is history'.
Congratulations to Alan on his win from all members of Brampton Park.
