Club news

Ian Robinson Hole in One

It was during my first match at the RAF Matchplay championships, at Luffenham Heath GC, a week last Wednesday. A 7 iron on the par 3 12th, pitched 18 inches short, checked and popped in the hole!! My first ever one!! It must have done me some good as I went on to win the overall Matchplay plate.

Invitation Day

We would like to thank all those members who brought their friends and took part in the Men's Invitation Day on June 18th.

This was a real Flagship event for our club and I believe members succeeded in living up to this by bringing so many guests - the total field was 88.

The course was in excellent condition and the atmosphere created within the clubhouse was Brampton Park at its best.

Thank you to those of you who worked so hard in organising the day and making sure that it ran smoothly.

The course looked in perfect condition and playing it was a real pleasure. We are all very grateful to Al and Nick and their teams for their preparation.

And of course thank you Captain John for your advice and support throughout. There were prizes for overall first, second and third as well as winners am and pm. We had Nearest the Pins for both sessions and Nearest the Pig on the 16th fairway in the afternoon. It was very generous of those members who donated these prizes.

The overall winners for the day were:

1st Daniel Simpson & guest with 90 points (45 points both am & pm) And on Countback:
2nd Jody Greenall & guest with 82 points (40 & 42 points)
3rd Adam Longford & guest with 82 points (again 40 & 42 points)

Well done to them - some of us didn't do quite so well but we had great fun.

Finally those of you who couldn't make it this year - please take part next year because it is such a good and enjoyable day.

David Bartlett, Steve Pinner and Adam Longford.

You have all received £5.27 on your account in the pro shop.

PRP Silver Medal 26th June

Well done to Mike Gays who won with a nett 64, which included 3 two's! In second place was James Rowe with a nett 68, he finished ahead of James Ballentine who had a nett 69. There were 10 two's on the day, made by: Mike Gays x3, Simon Burns, Karen Cox, Shirley Osborne, Ron Cowper, Pam Lammiman, Harry Bailey and Adam Morley. Each player has been credited with £7.10 to their proshop account.

Here is an account of Mike's round in his own words:

It started like so many medals do, pushed right off the tee, hoiked into the hazard and a double bogey on the first.

I said to myself walking off that holes 2 and 5 were birdie opportunities so I needed to get my head down and try and claw the double back, 45 minutes later I was on the 6th tee having gone birdie, birdie, birdie, birdie!

The hole felt like a bucket and I was swinging with good tempo and control. A bogey on 6 brought me back down to earth but a stiff 6 iron on the 7th and a textbook birdie on 8 more than made up for it. Another poor bogey came on 9 with a pulled tee shot leaving me no angle at the pin which left me -2 through 9, with 6 birdies on the front 9.

Most birdies had come from 6-10 feet but when I left my approach 40 feet short of the 10th pin I genuinely looked at it and saw the line, rocked the shoulders and dropped it in.

The first par of the day came on 11, followed by two more leaving me -3 on the 14th tee and ready to make another birdie…NOPE, pushed tee shot either OB or in the swamp down the right rough, provisional hit and another double bogey, I could feel the wobble coming when I pulled my tee shot on 15 to position Z. It was one of those days though and I hit a flop shot that landed above the hole and dribbled in for the 3rd two of the day.

The heart was beating down 16 but I pured a hybrid and made a solid par, bogey followed up 17 with the first real putt I missed all day. I said again to myself time to make a birdie and I smacked a driver down the middle, wedge to 15 feet and surprised myself when the ball fell in the side of the cup for a 69 and my lowest round to date less than two years after getting lighter in the leg department.

Congratulations again Mike.

Seniors' June Medal

The seniors played their June Monthly medal on Friday. 45 players entered and it was won by Ron Cowper with a nett 71, in 2nd place was David Kelsey with a nett 75, and 3rd was Michael Brooks with a nett 76.

Pros news

Well Done Adam

Adam P had his third Order of Merit event of the year last week at Essendon Golf Club. He shot a great score of -6 (66) in the first round to be in third position. Unfortunately the second round got cancelled due to thunder/lightening and heavy rain, meaning only the first round scores counted. Therefore Adam finished third! He is now 17th in the Order of Merit.

Just to prove that the unmentionables can strike anyone… this happened to poor Jon Rahm, playing in his first ever event as a professional. As if that wasn't bad enough, Shot Tracker technology captured it all!
