Jock Stewart Cup Competition

On Sunday 11 May 2014 Brampton men hosted Barkway GC in the second round of the Jock Stewart, a three match foursomes competition with teams from three handicap bands playing off scratch. On a wild and windy day our teams hopes of progressing further in the competition were blown away by a combination of the weather and some inspired golf by the Barkway team. We eventually went down by 2 matches to 1.

Our lead group (H'cap 6 -10) Nigel Baker and Dave Humphreys encounter a Barkway pairing who's chipping and putting was to be admired, going down 4&2. Mike McFadyzean and Richard Cochrane (H'cap 11 - 14) followed taking the first 2 holes and never really being under pressure eventually running out winners by 4&3. Our final pair (H'cap 15 - 20) John Topping and Nick Pedlar lost the match on the greens, although continually going close were unable to buy a putt on the day and going down 5&4.

Captain's Individual Stableford 10.5.14

Congratulations to this week's winners! In first place Tom McNeill with 37 points, second goes to James King with 37 points on countback and in third place Master Adam Morley with 36 points.

Scratch Team

Scratch League Week 2. Very tough match at Saffron Walden.

Details:
1. Owen Davies and James Reeson 1up.
2. Simon Earl and Steve Lockert 5 dn.
3. Jody Greenall and Connor Hehir 5 dn.

Lost 4-2 on the night.

Match 1. Hard fought close match with James returning from a successful qualification for the Brabazon Trophy.

Match 2. Tough nine for both with opposing players 5 under on completion of match.

Match 3. Jody back in form but Connor currently doing his A Level exams, understandably, wasn't at his usual best.

Big thank you to David Croker for making the long journey down to SW Golf Club to cheer us on.

Next match Tues home v Newmarket. 5.30pm

All support is greatly appreciated.

Steve.

George - This week I played in the Beds and Cambs PGA Championship round Bar Hill. My total score was 146 with a level par 72 in the AM and a two over 74 in the afternoon. This was a little bit of a disappointment as through 29 holes I was three under par. This score left me in fifth position which was just enough to scrape into the top 3 in the order of merit, this means that I will be playing with Stuart Brown (Orton Meadows) & Andrew George (Ely City) in August in the Skycaddie Intercounty Championship.

Overall this winter has been more successful than last year as I have come third in the Beds and Cambs order of merit and the top trainee. Also in the Thomson Tour I finished fifth in the order of merit and second trainee. Now onto the summer PGA competitions which are beginning to kick off.

Upcoming events

John O Gaunt Pro Am - Monday 19th of May
Hadley Wood Pro am - Friday 30th of May
Order of Merit event 1 - 4th and 5th of June (Bishop Stortford)

Save yourself time and money, go lithium!

Sure, a lithium trolley battery may cost a little more than its lead acid alternative; but Motocaddy lithium lasts five times longer, is a fraction of the weight and recharges much faster. For trolley power, it pays to play the long game.

TaylorMade SLDR

With the introduction of TaylorMade’s SLDR Mini driver and SLDR S family, as well as a white version of the original SLDR driver, there are more options for us to work with. The 260cc Mini features a low-forward centre of gravity which means you may well benefit from playing a higher loft.
