The Battle of the Somme
Anybody playing over the next few weeks will notice that we are flying a commemorative flag for the 100 years since The Battle of the Somme on the 16th hole.
Captain Pro Challenge
Throughout the year the Captain and I have played challenge matches in a 4BBB format over 18 holes.
As always the matches have been keenly contested with some fantastic golf being played. We would like to thank everyone that took up the challenge and congratulations to those who beat us and hard luck to those who could not quite overturn us. The Winners of this year's Captain / Professional Trophy were James and Scott Ballentine who on the day were unstoppable. Well done to you both and your names will be added to a very illustrious list of winners over the years.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank John for his company throughout the year , it has been great fun. I said anything could happen and this year it certainly did with us competing against birdies and eagles and the phrase coming from our opponents "I don't normally play like this" Well that is the Captain Pro matches. JT thanks and it was a pleasure to partner you.
This year's Captain/ Pro Play off took place on Sunday with the challengers who played us during the year all coming together to have another go. The competition was as tough as always with Scott Boswell and Trevor Smith returning a fantastic 47 points to win from Don Bermingham and Clive Quick second on 43 Pts and Tricky Scott and Colin Williams third on 41 Pts. One of the aims of the matches is to raise money for the Junior Section and thank you to everyone that has contributed.
Lady Captain Pro Matches
This year May and I played the Lady Captain pro matches and similar to the men the competition was fun but also very competitive with some great golf being played. May thank you for your company and well played, it was also impressive to see how straight the ladies hit the ball and manage themselves around the course.
Past Captains Day
Brampton Park Past Captains recently held their Annual Golf Day playing for the Past Captains Trophy.
Playing on a sunny day with the Course in excellent condition some good golf ensued. Richard Boyd graciously joined us from his new home in Norfolk. Richard had been a member of Brampton Park for many years and was Captain in 2002. The scores were very close but our current Captain John Topping just managed to hold on to win the Trophy, well done to him.
We started the day on an encouraging not with Alisdair Currie seeing everyone off from the first tee. The day was completed with an excellent meal and all the Past Captains would like to thank all the staff for providing a most enjoyable day both on the course and in the bar with the food afterwards.

Xmas Spirits - Note from Competitions and Fixtures Committee
The season of Xmas Spirits is once again nearly upon us and we would like to advise you of a few changes for this year's programme as well as inform our newer members about the competition format.
- There will be a series of 9 Mixed Individual Stableford Xmas Spirit competitions this year, one more than usual. The prizes are (mostly) alcoholic in nature. - There will be winners prizes for each daily competition as well as the top 8 players with the best aggregated total from 5 scores out of nine. - Your aggregate best score will be calculated for you; you do not have to enter all 9 competitions to qualify. Running aggregate totals will be posted in the locker rooms regularly. - Entry fees for each competition remain at £2 except for competition 5 and 9 which will be 'double bubble' at £4. - You will be advised by email in advance of the day what the lowest 'winning' Stableford score is likely to be so you will know whether to attend the prize-giving. - CARDINAL RULE: Winners plus the best scores in descending order MUST attend the prize-giving OR nominate a representative to collect on their behalf. Prizes will be distributed to highest scores from ALL competitions in descending order until they run out. If you're not there someone else gets your prize.
The biggest change over previous years is tee booking.
As an experiment, from Xmas Spirit 4 the Competitions and Fixtures Committee will make 10 tee times for each competition bookable in advance on HowDidIDo to try and mitigate the mad Pro-shop booking scramble each weekend. This online entry only represents just over an hour for each competition day, all the other tee slots will still need to be booked as usual in the pro shop from 7.30 a.m., 7 days in advance.
Please note a tee time booked by either method allows either casual play or entry into the Xmas Spirit. It is our hope that as many of you as possible will join in and have a go in the Spirits.
PREFERRED LIES
Preferred lies and winter rules were put into operation on Monday 17th October . We hope you have been enjoying your golf here at Brampton through the summer and will continue to do so as we head into autumn.
Winter Tee Bookings And Pro Shop Opening Hours
As of the 5th November we will be taking Tee bookings at weekends from 7.30 am so you get an extra ½ hour in bed before you press the button. Would everyone also please let us know as soon as possible 01480434705 if you cannot make a Tee time especially at weekends. This will allow as many members as possible to get a game through the autumn and winter months.
Please Note The Winter Pro Shop Hours
Monday - Friday 8.00am - 4.30pm Weekends 7.30am - 4.30pm
Look forward to seeing you all over the autumn period. |
