Friday 21st October arrived and we found ourselves looking forward to the annual match against Connemara Golf Club. The weather was better than we could have hoped and the course was in great condition. Friday was played for 1 point with Brampton Park starting the weekend with an empathic win by around 90 Stableford points. We then headed over to the Pheasant at Keyston for our first social event of the weekend. The team at the Pheasant coped brilliantly when more of us turned up than were expected, some 60 people enjoyed a fantastic evening, my thanks to Simon Cadge and his team.
Saturday arrived and we prepared for the betterball match play that is traditionally played on the second day, again Brampton Park came out on top and ended the second day with a considerable lead. Saturday night we leave all to make their own plans: some went out for curry, some for Chinese, others just for a pint or two.
Most that were out ended the night at the Oliver Cromwell in St.Ives, where a great night was had. Some made new Facebook friends, others texted their inner most feelings to other members of the team, unintentionally most the time, note to self, don't leave mobile unattended while Jack Edge is about.
Sunday marked the final day and we were all looking forward to the singles match play competition. Brampton Park continued to dominate and come out winning by 25 1/2 points to 12 1/2. The gala dinner at the club on the Sunday night went very well with many commenting on the quality of the food served and the service we received. Connemara team Captain Paddy Flaherty presented the trophy back to Brampton Park. The final act of the weekend was the presentation of the green jacket which this was given to Steve Palmer for no other reason than it was his 60th birthday on the final day.
Planning for the return trip 2017 has already started, for those interested, next year's competition is Friday 20th - Sunday 22nd Oct.
My thanks to all the guys who help with lifts and to Richard Fitzjohn for sorting out the commemorative ties that were produced to mark the 25th match between to two clubs.
