Staff news

This week Al and Helen attended a Foremost Seminar on sales and staff training.

We would just like to thank Peter Durham and Steve Bird as we found it very informative and look forward to implementing some of the new ideas within our pro shop team.

Captains news

The New Year of our Captaincies has just begun and the first traditional event is of course the Captains' Drive In which will take place on Sunday 18th December at 8.30am.

This occasion has a fundraising aspect so our Vice Captains may soon approach you and ask you to enter the Sweepstake and guess the total distance driven by the 4 Captains. It will be wonderful if you can take part in this Sweepstake - £1 a guess or 6 guesses for £5

50% of the money raised in this way goes to the winner/winners (last year there were two), and 50% to the Captains' funds for the club.

The morning is a good natured one and we expect there to be a good deal of teasing as we all attempt to hit a long straight drive for once! Or maybe a good bet will be on a short total yardage (we really hope this isn't what happens).

Alisdair will ensure that the measurements of the drives are true and honest and of course his decision will be final.

Just prior to the Drive In the retiring Captains will play up the 18th hole. We know that many of you will wish to be there to applaud them for all their hard work.

On a very cold wintery day at BPGC, a big well done to Ron Cowper who won the Winter Bash with 40 points, he was three points clear of John Sadler in second place with 37 points. Finishing in third place was Alex Brunton with 36 points. There were only two 2's on the day, they were made by Tom Harris and Jody Greenall, each received £19 credited to their pro shop account. Congratulations to all the winners.

Xmas Spirit 8 - 4th December

On the day there were 4 Two's, well done to Steve Kessler, David Cotton, Teresa Neeson and Kevin Wright. The winners have had £10 added to their account in the pro shop.

Tour news

Well, what did you make of Tiger Woods' return last weekend? As golf enthusiasts, it was a fantastic sight to see Tiger strolling the fairways again and throwing in a few fist pumps that we've all become accustomed to over the years. There were some interesting stats too:

  • 24 - He made 24 birdies over the four days which was the best in the field
  • 6 - He also carded six double bogeys, the most out of everyone

Midway through Saturday's round it looked as though Tiger was going to challenge for the title - what a story that would have been - but, rather unsurprisingly, the 14-time major champion wilted during his final round as mental fatigue no doubt played a role in his fall down the leaderboard.

But the real shining light was Japan's Hideki Matsuyama. He's been a model of consistency of late and victory last week made it four wins in his last five starts, the other result being a lousy runner-up finish. Phenomenal.

It's the type of form that we all crave, but what are you doing to achieve this in 2017? If you think an upgrade to your new equipment might help then come and see us in the shop and we can talk you through which products might benefit your game. Or maybe you're considering some coaching over the winter to cure your game of that destructive shot that keeps creeping in? If that's the case, we certainly have the expertise to rid your game of faults to help you fulfil your goals next year.

Whatever it is, get in touch with the team here and we'll be happy to help.

The wait is over, Tiger Woods is back. This perfect bunker shot was one of many highlights from his four days in the Bahamas - although there was plenty of rust, too.
