Open Scramble - 24/5/14
Sadly due to a deluge of rain on Saturday morning this competition was cancelled. A new date is being organised so keep your eyes open on Howdidido or on the PSI systems at the club.
Bank Holiday Greensomes - 26/5/14
Congratulations to David and Amanda Rawson winning the Bank Holiday Greensomes by two points with a great score of 41 in tough conditions. The other podium positions were a countback battle between 4 pairs all on 39 points but second place was taken by Brian Fett and Nick Miller and third place by Adam Longford and Steve Nokes. Well-done!
A special congratulations to Mike Mcfadyzean for his hole in one on the fourth in this competition!
Ladies Match - GRACE NORMAN v St Ives
In windy conditions at St Ives, Brampton Park Ladies played a superb match and were victorious 2-1. Brampton will play Links, Newmarket at home in the 3rd Round.
Juniors Friendly Cup vs. Newmarket
The junior teams opening knock out competition kicked off on Sunday 25th May with the first round of the Friendly Cup held at Brampton Park
This competition is played off Yellow and Red tees with a max handicap of 32.
Lewis Gabb & Dan Pedlar led the team off, giving 8 shots was always going to test their game, and the match was a great contest with all players hitting the ball well. The match was all square walking off the 17th. Unfortunately Newmarket took the last to win the match by 1 hole.
Second pair were Chloe Drewery & Nick Miller. This was Chloe's first game for the club and she appeared a little nervous on the first tee that lasted for one shot as Chloe hit a wonderful drive down the first leaving Nick in perfect position for their second. As the pair grew in confidence they put their opponents under considerable pressure and walked off the 11th 7 up finally closing out a 6&4 victory on the 14th green.
The final pair were Jack and Harry Edwards, with the match finely poised and the Edwards pair giving 8 shots it was always going to be big ask. The match see-sawed back and forth with Jack and Harry only really getting ahead from 12 onwards, with a great 2 on the par 3. They walked off 15 Dormy 3 and closed out the match when their opponents conceded the 16th to win 4 & 2.
Well done team another great win, congratulations to everyone taking part.
Next round is away at either Cromwell or Ely city on July 6th
George - On Monday the 19th I played in the John O'Gaunt Pro Am with Phill Slusar, Doug Gallimore and Bob Lee. We were extremely lucky with the weather not only was it sunny and dry all day we also pegged up early in the morning before the breeze got up.
As a team we had a four ball better ball score of 5 under par this eventually left us only four shots out the top five. Phill hit a couple of shots which I have to mention hole 6 - second shot - a high flying hybrid on the toughest hole from back behind the corner at least 230 yards which landed in the centre of the green and finished on the back edge. This shot was ruined by a dreaded 3 putt but Phill made up for this on the next with a great 15 footer for a birdie on another tough hole.
Dougie had some equally great shots and it was controversial but Dougie may have out driven me on the 13th hole but mine did pitch in a luscious and soft part of the fairway (cough). Bob had a great attempt at nearest the pin sticking his ball to about 1 foot on the fourth hole making a great two.
My personal round also went well we started on the tenth and a bogey on the 11th wasn't the dream start but pars up until the 18th where I made back to back birdies on 18 & 1. I then made two poor bogeys on 2 and 3 to drop to one over par. I then had three solid pars on the tough 4th 5th and 6th. Then on seven a surprise birdie came about with a holed greenside bunker shot. This purple patch continued as I lipped out for eagle on the 8th hole from 60 yards and made another birdie then on the ninth which is a par five I hit driver and a 5 iron into the heart of the green and made a two putt birdie to finish with a -2 (69). This eventually left me in a tie for second just losing out on first by a shot.
