Greetings golfers, 

Welcome to this week's newsletter, whilst the weather was a challenge this week, golfers still ventured out and the ladies enjoyed a very competitive Club Championship.

Club news

Ladies Club Championships

The Ladies Club Championship was won this year by Karen Cox, a wonderful win and about time too. 2nd was Fay Allison and 3rd Lynda Hall.

The Davies Shield for best nett was won by Karen Large. The Sapphire Trophy was won by Sally Acton.

Considering the weather forecast we managed to get by with some rain, but no thunder or lightening. A very competitive 2 rounds and a close run Sapphire, all added to an excellent day followed by a good meal and good banter.

Competition results

Wednesday W – 09/08/17

A horrendous day weather wise at BPGC, cold, rain and windy! 3 people ventured out onto the course and Matt Casey scored a remarkable 40 points to win the competition. Well done to Matt and to the other two people who participated! Unfortunately, there were no two’s.

Badger Cup - 13/08/17

A huge field of 118 people contested the Badger Cup on Sunday. Well done to Owen Davies who won on countback with 39 points. In second place was Corrine Everett also with 39 points. Finishing third also with 39 points was Mark King. In fourth place, Karen Cox continued her good run of form with 38 points.

There were 10 twos and a hole in one! Congratulations to Doug Gallimore who had a hole in one on the 15th so obviously won the nearest the pin on that hole, that was kindly donated by tournament sponsor Chris Cuthbert. I hope you all got a drink off Doug!

The 10 twos were made by Mark King, Lyn Griffiths, Richard Orrell, Richard Scott, James Wise, Scott Ballentine, Andre Becker, Graham Gibb, Marilyn Williams and David Fisher. Each of them and Doug received £10.73, credited to their Pro Shop account.

 
Coaching news

Junior coaching this summer holidays

There are still some spaces left for your junior golfer to receive some coaching this summer at Brampton Park. The cost of each day is £15 and includes clubs and balls. The dates and times are:

  • Saturday 19th August - 1pm to 4pm
  • Thursday 24th August - 1pm to 4pm
  • Wednesday 30th August -1pm to 4pm

The day will include an introduction to golf followed by sessions on the long game, short game, some time on the course playing different games along with golf rules on how to mark a card.

Choose the right ball

Not only is playing with the same model of golf ball each round important for your consistency, but you need to make sure that you’re taking to the course with a ball that suits your game and feel preferences. Comparing different balls is a great way to narrow down what you are after.

Scoring system

During a chat about your goals, price range and personal preferences we can make a few ball recommendations for you to go and try. Why not use the above scoring system when out on the course to determine which ball is best for your game?

SHORT GAME FIRST

Side-by-side testing should make it easier to notice any preferences you have, but if you don’t have a clear winner we’d always recommend prioritising the ball you prefer around the greens, as this is where you take the majority of your shots and what influences your final score the most.
