Not Captain’s Day Charity I was truly humbled by the members who initiated, arranged, ran and participated in the ‘Not Captain’s Day’ competition last Saturday. I am extremely grateful for the members who contributed the prizes and for all the members who played and donated their entry monies. The total came to a fantastic £376. My son has his next session of chemotherapy this Wednesday and the care and attention he is receiving from the Woodlands’ nurses is outstanding. I have informed the Woodlands lead nurse of the total raised and have arranged to meet with her this Thursday to hand over the money and discuss how she intends to use it for the benefit of all of the nurses. She has asked me to pass on her many thanks and those of all the Woodlands staff to the members for their very kind and thoughtful actions. With my very best regards, Ian.

Golf jargon can be confusing. Take drivers for example; why is there a 460cc limit set by golf's governing bodies and what does this actually mean? |
Why is driver head size limited? Driver heads are measured in volume and are limited to 460 cubic centimetres (cc). This limit is enforced to stop technology diminishing the skill level needed to play well off the tee. What are the benefits of larger heads? Playing a 460cc driver, like the Titleist 917 D2, gives you the biggest head possible, which means you can miss the middle of the face now and then and still hit a good shot because they tend to be extremely forgiving. What about smaller heads? Smaller heads, like the 440cc Titleist 917 D3, create less drag as they move through the air, so should give you faster swing speeds, which translate to faster ball speeds and more distance, but are a little less forgiving than a larger 460cc headed driver. |
