Elaine’s Lady Captain’s Day What an amazing day I had on Saturday. The weather was perfect although earlier in the week rain was predicted. The theme for the day was doctors, nurses and patients (babies) in reference to my previous career. Well the ladies certainly entered into the spirit of the day with outfits ranging from a zombie to a baby sumo! My carriage certainly awaited me. The ladies, ably led by Karen, had decorated it as a “nursemobile”. The baby on the roof reclining in a bedpan was an inspiration as was the flashing blue light. I think the visitors on the course wondered what was going on. This was ably driven all day by lovely Vice Captain Karen. There were 39 ladies teeing off, after suitably watered with prosecco, playing an Am/Am. Starting them off was Andy Peacock who seemed to enjoy himself. Scoring was good on the front 9 but after Pimm’s and Cakes on the 9th served by some stray men (John Cardwell, John Davey, Brian Strand and Graham Blewitt) things started to go downhill for some. The scoring was close as four teams finished on 83 points. However just leading on countback was Karen Cox, Nell Phillpotts and Pam Edey. We all met for dinner in the evening and were served a delicious three course meal enjoyed by all. This was followed by music and Karaoke by Andy Speary. The ladies made a lovely presentation to me so look out for a new golf bag on my trolley minus rain cover because it’s waterproof!! But just to be sure I got a new umbrella too.
