Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. This week, we take a look at a rising American star, examine the importance of your wedges to shooting lower scores, and cast our eye over the advantages of having a golf bag suited to the wet weather. Enjoy the read. |
Captain Pro Challenge On Sunday the Captain / Pro play off took place and gave the opportunity to those that played against the Captain Ian and myself throughout the year to gain revenge or continue to rub salt into our wounds. During the year we played 16 matches winning 6 losing 7 and halving the other 3. The matches were as always very competitive with some great shots being played and as always the expect the unexpected words as we saw the ball appear in a hole winning situation. Thank you to everyone that played and a special mention to Ian who played some great golf during the year and helped carry me in some of the matches although my caddying skills did come in handy. The Winners of the Captain and Professional Trophy this year were Jim Law and Lee King beating us 5 up over the 18 Holes and have added their names to an illustrious list of winners over the years. Congratulations Jim and Lee you played some great golf and thoroughly deserved it. |
On the Sunday the winners with a fantastic score of 43 Points were Roy James and Dennis Lea with Brian Fett and Mick Ford second on 41 pts in third were the Captain Ian and myself with 40 pts. There were 3 twos on the day Ian £11.00 and myself x2 £23.00 donated to juniors. The matches throughout the year and play off raise money for the Junior Section here at Brampton so thanks to all that participated and I look forward to next year partnering John Tellett and the matches that will again be one of the highlights of my year as Professional. |

The Royal Worlington Pro/Am
Recently Adam P played in the annual Royal Worlington Pro/Am, as per usual the golf course was immaculate and all professionals and amateurs were extremely well taken care of. Despite arriving with only 15 minutes to spare (due to disastrous traffic on the A14!) Adam shot a great score of 2 under par 68 to win the Professional competition. He partnered our very own Chris Cuthbert in the Pro/Am part of the competition, to which they finished in third place. A quick mention to Scott Ballentine, the Secretary at Royal Worlington who won the longest drive with his new Titleist TS driver and Doug Poole who secured nearest the pin with a great shot on the 6th hole (a treacherous pin position). A very successful day for Brampton Park.

Wednesday W - 24/10/2018
The last Wednesday W of 2018 was won by James Taylor Alford with 40 points, narrowly beating Kevin Cartlidge on countback. There was a 3 way tie for second place with Malcolm Ashby, Bill Gourlay & Steve Webb all scoring a very respectable 38 points. On the day there were 4 twos, well done too Mike Dunn, Kevin Cartlidge, Gubby Panesar & Colin Williams Who All received £16.75 on their pro shop account. With the clocks changing this weekend let us take this time to remind you that all Wednesday competitions will now be played from the yellow tees, still with winter rules and preferred lies in operation. Best of luck for the winter competitions ahead.

Safety on the Course
I would like to remind members that safety on the course is of paramount importance and so I would be grateful if you could all comply with the following: 1.) At all times the greenkeepers have priority on the course, as such, it is vitally important that you do not play a shot until they are clear of either the green that you are playing to, or, on any other part of the course when you are hitting towards them. They will move aside as soon as they can, but this may mean a slight delay for you to play your shot. I ask that you wait until they are out of range before playing. 2.) If at any time your ball is heading in a direction likely to cause harm to other golfers, please shout ‘FORE’ with sufficient loudness that they may hear and therefore have the opportunity to take evasive action. 3.) Please wait sufficient time for the preceding group to move fully away from the 12th green before teeing off on the 12th. Should your ball be heading right on the 12th please shout ‘FORE’ as per above. |
Winter Golf
From the golfer’s perspective, we have had such a fantastic year weather wise. But from our greens staff view, it has been a difficult few months to keep our course in a playable condition. Now that winter golf is just around the corner and to mitigate any further damage, with effect from Thurs 1st November, the white tees will be removed from play and there may be a number of winter mats that come into play. I am sure that you will appreciate that our tees in particular have taken the brunt of the dry spell this year and in order to protect them further, the head greenkeeper may elect to move onto the winter mats. Use of winter mats will be minimised as much as possible. Also as the days grow shorter, the available tee slots during the day become more of a premium. For those of you who book multiple tee slots for multiple players in one go, I would be grateful if you could only book tee slots for those players who actually intend to play on the day and should you find that you no longer require that tee slot, then it is cancelled on BRS. The pro shop make a note of all players who turn up to play and so tee slot usage will be carefully monitored over the next few months. Many thanks, Captain Ian.

An all-American affair Xander Schauffele showed U.S. Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk exactly what he was missing at Le Golf National, as he pulled off a stunning play-off victory at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai. Schauffele clawed back a three-shot deficit to fellow American Tony Finau, making birdies on the final two holes to force a play-off, before making another birdie at the first sudden-death hole to win his third PGA title. Schauffele was named 'Rookie of the Year' in the 2016-17 season, and is proving his credentials once again this year, despite switching equipment manufacturers at the start of the season. If you’re also thinking of a move away from your current set of clubs, come down to the shop and we’ll get you fitted down to every last detail! Request a fitting here. |
Preferred lies Now that the clocks have gone back and we find ourselves edging towards winter, many golf courses will have introduced a Local Rule for 'Preferred Lies'. When this is in force, it allows you to mark, clean (especially important if your ball is covered in mud like in this photo) and place your ball within six inches of where it has come to rest, providing it was on a closely mown area - i.e. the fairway. If you're unsure on this or any other rule, please come and speak to a member of the pro shop team. |

Winter is coming, but we know that won't prevent you avid golfers getting out on the course to face biting winds, muddy shoes and, most of all, rain. Lots and lots of rain. With this in mind, it's more important than ever to have a golf bag which will keep your clubs and belongings dry during a downpour. |
Introducing BIG MAX Aqua Space This is where a cart bag like the Aqua Space comes into play. This bag has been designed with 100% waterproof material, including nine taped-seam waterproof zip pockets so that everything will be kept dry for the whole round no matter what the weather holds in store. The nine pockets also mean it's spacious enough for your extra layers (think waterproofs, jumpers, woolly hat, mitts etc) whilst there are specific holders for your umbrella, towel and glove; you’ll be ready for whatever gets thrown at you this winter. |
