2019 Captain Drive-In Sweepstake
John, Karen, Dave and Joe enjoyed sunshine, wind at their backs and a good number of supporters on the first tee. The Captain’s offered mince pies and mulled wine to those gathered and for those playing the Captain’s Waltz. John kicked things off with a good drive, just tailing into the rough on the left; 215 yards, Karen then followed on with a solid hit, that tailed off to the right rough; 155 yards. Dave, missing his normal practice swing hit one low and at the hedge; it went through and ended on the fairway for a 10 yard bonus 116 yards. Joe, looking confident took his 3 wood, downwind the Pro and Vice Captain adjudicated that it made the water long and left; 253 yards after allowing for the penalty of 20 yards. The total being 739 yards. Nobody had chosen that specific yardage whilst the range from 737 to 747, favourite aeroplane related distances, had 38 entries. You have raised £735.00 which is fantastic. Half of that will go to the Captains’ Project and half to prizes. We have 7 winners who each receive £52.50. 738 Yards: John Cardwell & Darren Sadler. 740 Yards: Vince Davies, John Clubb, John Ballantine, Noel Anderson and Gabriel Power. The prizes can be collected form the Pro Shop.

So close yet so far
It was a case of so close yet so far for Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell and Argentine team-mate Emiliano Grillo, as they finished agonizingly short in the QBE Shootout in Florida, missing out on top spot by a single stroke. The event, which follows a fourball format, was won by Americans Patton Kizzire and Brian Harman, who finished on -30 after a final round of 61. Tony Finau and the LPGA’s Lexi Thompson finished on -23. Meanwhile, it was an emotional victory for 2010 Open winner Louis Oosthuizen, as he claimed his first South African Open over the weekend – the first time the South African has won the tournament. An eagle and five birdies in his final round meant that Oosthuizen ended the tournament on -18 under – a record-equaling six shots clear of second place. England’s Oliver Wilson finished on -10, in a tie for third place. |
We all want to enjoy playing golf, and a big part of this is lowering our handicap. Yes, there will be times when your game isn't up to scratch and you go up .1 a few times in a row, but there'll also be times when all of the puzzle pieces fit and your handicap tumbles. |
What does your graph look like? As the year comes to an end, it's important to take stock and examine where you can improve your game going into the new year. There might be several areas that you want/need to work on, or maybe just two or three finer details that will take your game to the next level. |
Whatever those areas are, we're here to help. We can identify the key reasons you're not shooting the scores you want, as well as devise a personalised winter coaching plan to help iron out those faults and get you paying your best golf. So, if you want to see your handicap tumble in 2019, come down to the shop for a chat - you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. |
