English Champion Club
Over the weekend 20/21st Sep, Brampton Park scratch golfers Owen Davies, James Reeson and Dave Milburn competed in the prestigious National Club competition at the beautiful course of Trentham Golf Club in Stoke. 30 counties were represented and Brampton had qualified to represent Cambridgeshire by winning last year's Inter Club competition at Bourn for the second year running. The standard was very high and after day one Southport and Ainsdale had built up a commanding 10 shot lead over the team in 2nd place with all three of their players shooting 2 under par 70's! James, Dave and Owen had scores of 76, 78, 80 respectively.
Day 2 saw the autumn sunshine for all the players and the scoring conditions, with little wind, seemed good. The Brampton players had the first tee off at 8 o'clock and were all keen to improve on their fortunes from Day 1. James and Dave were playing pretty solidly on the front nine but Owen was struggling and got to the turn in 42. Keen to make amends on the home stretch he holed a few solid putts and hit some solid irons to come back in 37. A solid nine holes on a course set up for tournament conditions with some tricky greens. Dave, James and Owen had 75,76,79 respectively. Southport and Ainsdale kept their nerve and the 10 shot advantage and were worthy winners. They now go on represent England in the European Club championships in Bulgaria in late October. Brampton finished the tournament in 22nd place but some valuable national experience was gained, they certainly have the ability to make it into the top 10.

RAF Interservices
Last week I was at Saunton Golf Club in Devon coaching with the RAF for their interservices tournament.
This is the event where the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Army compete to see which service takes the spoils.
As always the event was keenly contested and the great news was the RAF came out eventual winners.
This was the third straight year we have won which is the first time the RAF have won three times in a row for 50 years hopefully this lets me keep my job with them for another year.
