PGA GOLF SHOW

Last week Helen and I spent three days at the PGA Golf show which was held in Harrogate. This was an opportunity for us to look at all the new and exciting Ideas and products that are coming to the golf industry in the New Year.

We also attended seminars on various areas of Professional Development including shop design, customer service, newsletter ideas and staff initiatives.

There are new products we have coming to Brampton so watch this space. As well as the busy days we also attended the Gala dinner on the Wednesday and visited Betty's Tea room on the Thursday.

The Masters - 11th, October 2014

Saturday 11th October saw the Brampton Park Golf Club Masters competition and a large field took part in excellent weather. On arrival at the club there was a quiet and sombre atmosphere and this was strange as normally the place is full of noise. Obviously the fact that the event taking place was the MASTERS had an effect on those waiting to tee off.

Our Vice Captain, Chris Cuthbert who had put in a tremendous effort arranging the competition was on hand to start all players and take details of those attending the meal in the evening.

Karen Cox teed off in the first group alongside Mike Gays and Rob Barrett and she ended her round with a leading score of 68 net and as all the players came off the 18th her score continued to lead the field.

The weather continued to be great until David Squires came up the 18th fairway and a short but sharp thunderstorm occurred.

Once all the players had completed their rounds Karen still stood at the top of the pile with her net round of 68 meant she had become the latest life time achiever of the Masters Competition award to join the present 8 others who all took part in this year's competition.

Ray Stonnell came closest to Karen with a net score of 69 to take runner up position for the 2nd year running. Well done Ray. A number of other players recorded net scores of 70 and 3rd, 4th and 5th prizes went to Brian Rogerson, Steve Noakes and Doug Poole on countback.

The evening meal and prize presentation was well attended with a 100 members, partners, sponsors and guests attending and thanks to the catering staff for their work on the night.

Chris Cuthbert had arranged the prize presentation and again the effort he put into this both on the day before and on the day was second to none...thanks again Chris. A number of junior members were among the major competition prize winners and it was great to see them in attendance at the presentation. In addition to those junior prize winners our junior organiser, John Edwards announced a new prize awarded to the Junior Order of Merit winner for 2014 and he announced that this was to be awarded to Chloe Drewery our only girl junior member at the club for her exceptional play during the 2014 season of junior events and matches...congratulations Chloe.

John also announced that the junior golfer of the year award for 2014 which is sponsored by Billie Leighton was being awarded to Nick Miller and he was presented with the award by the sponsor together with her personal prize for this award. Well done Nick and thanks again to Billie for continuing to sponsor this award and it was lovely to see you at the dinner.

John also informed the members that Dan Pedlar had accepted the role of junior Vice-Captain for 2015 ....congratulations Dan

The golfing year for 2014 is coming to a close and thanks to all members for their support in 2014 and hopefully we will see you at the AGM on the 26th November.
