Connemara 17th October 2014 - 19th October 2014
Well we survived again, but only just!!!!
The lads from Ballyconneely (Connemara Golf Club) were here again and didn't we know it.
The weekend format was the same as ever, golf Friday for 1 point, Saturday four ball matchplay (1 point per match) and individual match play on Sunday.
After day 1 BPGC lead by 1 point as expected, after day 2 by 6 points (10.5 to 4.5 ). Then it happened, very nearly the miracle at Brampton Park, with all matches in apart from Bermingham and Quick BPGC lead by 1 point.
To the captain's relief, Donny beat his partner with Clive halving to give BPGC a 2 point win (20.5 - 18.5) the closest it's been since the first year BPGC went to Connemara where the team only lost by only 1 point.
The conditions were very Connemara like on Sunday with high winds which played into their hands.
Clive Quick was awarded the green jacket for services to Violinists and BPGC.
My thanks to all that helped me with transport to and from both airport and hotel and to Karen Cox for standing in as honorary Irish person. It was great to have Vice Captain Chris Cuthbert in the team as well. It looks like the Captain will be travelling with the team next year.
George Howard, assistant pro, is however dropped from the team after losing 4&2 to Jim Taplin ( Eddie Jordan lookalike, handicap 21 ).
Our thoughts also go out to Mike Gays (a regular team member for many years now) who had a very serious operation the Monday after, we all wish Mike a speedy recovery.
We also enjoyed a meal together at the Exhibition in Godmanchester and the evening event at the club on Sunday night.
The dates are set for next year 15th - 19th Oct inclusive, numbers will be limited to 24 for next year.
