Mail On Sunday 2nd Round- saturday, 14 March
On Saturday the 14th the Mail on Sunday 2nd round matches were played in the morning at Colmworth North Beds GC.
There was some very close matches with the score changing hands on more than one occasion. The team however dug in at the later stages of their respective games and turned out a fantastic win of 3.5 - 1.5!
I want to take this opportunity to thank the team which comprised of Ray Stonnell, John Newton, Dave Humphreys, Greg Wills and Steve Lockert for their efforts on the day. To win any match away from home is a fantastic achievement, and you have all done our club proud!
The result has been sent into the competition organisers and we now wait for the 3rd round draw. Here's hoping for a home tie in round 3!
Thanks again to you all!
Regards
Steve Pinner
What are your goals for this season?
How can you improve your performance and enjoyment of the game?
Spring will soon be here and the competition season will be off and running. It is a good idea to set your goals for the coming season, if you don't know what you are trying to achieve you will not know how to get there either. Just blasting balls away will not help, but structured practice concentrating on different aspects of your game is much more likely to pay off. Identify your strengths and weaknesses, work on the part of your game that is letting you down the most. If you can't work it out why not book a lesson? A lot of faults are often very easily cured and if you understand the problem then you have a chance.

Captain's Away Weekend
Each year, the Captain of the year organises a weekend's golf away. This year I am taking us to Woodhall Spa, the home of England Golf.
As with past weekends away, we meet Saturday morning (this year the 9th May) and after a bacon roll, play a round - dinner Saturday night - play Sunday - dinner again - play Monday - sandwiches after - prize presentation - then home for early evening Monday. Some drink a bit, others modestly and some not at all . some use the gym and spa, others wouldn't know what it is. Some play poker and others get an early night. In short, it is a complete mix of people and players but generally, a good time is had by all. There are some who I see each weekend at the club and others I do not bump into save for captain's away weekend. I'm hoping you get the picture and that you will be confident that you are more than welcome. The cost is £335 and includes 3 rounds of golf (1 on the Bracken and 2 on the Championship Hotchkin course), accommodation on Saturday and Sunday evenings, bacon roll on arrival, evening meal Saturday and Sunday and sandwiches after golf on Monday. A single room is available at a supplement of £60.
We run a competition over the 3 rounds of golf, but it is not a serious one……..I say that, but last year, the then Vice Captain won (i.e.me) and I am determined to do an unprecedented double this year!
Our Pro, Alisdair and our head Greenkeeper Nick Meehan join us for Sunday and Monday.
Anyway, a good fun weekend away.
We currently have 30 members attending. I am shortly confirming numbers to the venue, but before I do, I thought I would email our newer members to invite them to join the party.
If you want to join us, can you please let me know within the next 10 days. Email best, but my mobile is 07850 390072 and of course I am available in the bar 8.00 am until 10.00 am on the day of the weekend that I am playing, to discuss this or deal with any other issues or questions generally you may have.
Regards
Chris Cuthbert
George - This week I played another Thomson Tour event at Millbrook Golf Club. I shot a round of 70 which is four under par, with two eagles, three birdies and three bogeys. I was five under par through nine holes and it was one of those rounds where I could have quite easily gone deeper. I also have an event at Thetford on the 19th which is the tournament I managed to win last month and I am hoping for another good result this month.
