There was also only 1 two on the day, this came to Vince Weatherhead!! Vince has had his account credited in the pro shop with £34! Well done to Vince and well done to all the winners!

Scratch League - 6th May

On Wednesday Night we played the first Scratch Match of the season, away at an extremely windy Newmarket Links. The Course was playing tough but we managed to put that to one side and come out with 2 Wins from a possible 3, leaving us with a 4-2 total. This is a great start to the league campaign and the whole team gave 100%, I wouldn't have expected anything less from this great squad! The Team for the night was James Reeson, Dave Milburn, Owen Davies, Simon Burns, Stu Entwistle and Mick Ford. However it was very unfortunate that we have lost the services of Dave Milburn for a while due to his wrist injury. Dave continued on Wednesday night in great pain and it looked as if he wouldn't continue after 6 holes but continue he did. I know that I voice all our best wishes from the squad and the club and we hope he now gets the treatment he needs for a full recovery. I am keen to publicise to the club that we have a few tough home games coming up and all support is welcome! Well done again to the team and lets continue with great form in the future matches!

Captains Away Weekend

We are just back from Captains Away Weekend at Woodhall Spa, the home of England Golf. A course rated as the 47th best course….in the World. And it certainly lived up to it!

Day 1 was on the sister course, the Bracken which is much underestimated and a fantastic test of golf and a pleasure to play. We saw Black Swans, a vast variety of birds and a fly over from the nearby air field including a Spitfire. The usual 4BBB was played with players taking half their score into the overall event. Mick Ford and Ian Robinson came out victorious with a very fine 40 points. Many others were not far behind. Shot of the day was Mike Prince who holed his second shot from 150 yds for 5 stableford points on the 18th.

Sunday saw many with hangovers, and some who had decided on an early night, but all got up for a great breakfast and a warmer day of golf. Shot of the day came from JDW Davies who holed his second shot at the first par 4 hole. Winner on the day was Ian Robinson with a great 37 points, with Alan Wood just a shot behind in second place.

Into day 3 and the weather had greatly improved in terms of temperature but still a fierce wind blowing which made conditions difficult on a very testing course. Ian Robinson had a decent lead and it was his to lose with a bunched group behind him, but he had a 7 shot lead. I had the pleasure of playing with Ian and whilst I beat him on the day It ended up with the weekend being won by Ian Robinson with Me in second place, John Newton in third and Alan Wood in forth. We ran a cumulative competition as to the number of bunker shots played. The best player only played 3….many played more…..but overall winner" of that contest was Gary Coates with a total of 34 bunker shots…..he accepted the prize (a Bucket and Spade) with good grace!!!

The end result was a splendid weekend away, which judging by the emails I have had, was much enjoyed by all. For those that have not attended before, they are great fun and very inclusive and I'd recommend them to you next year.
