Greetings from Alisdair Currie | Brampton Park Golf Club - Golf Shop | Hello golfers,
What a US Open we had. What a course, what a variation in golf being played by the top players in the world and what a winner in Jordan Spieth. As for Jordan Spieth a great example of someone who plays the game his way knowing his limitations and controlling his emotions even at a very young age (I wish I was like that at his age!!)
The course Chambers Bay has probably created more comments than any US Open course in history with different greens, different bounces and varying results from balls that land in similar places. I will leave you all to make your own call but we certainly have a major champion in Jordan Spieth. Bring on St Andrews a course we all know with just a little bit of history!! For me I will never forget the scenes on the 18th green when Seve Ballesteros won the Open hopefully this year will be as exciting .

Captain's News by Chris Cuthbert - Club Captain
Saturday saw the annual Men's Invitation Day with an impressive 34 pairs taking part this year. Winners of the morning Greensome were Tony Butler and his guest and in the afternoon an impressive 43 points in the 4BBB saw Mick Ford and his guest pick up. Runners up in the 36 hole event were Darren Blackwell and his father with the overall winner's prize going to Brian Thomas and his guest Bert Francis. There were morning and afternoon nearest the pins on all par 3's as well as a nearest the pin in 2 shots on 18 and a longest drive on the 8th. The prizes generously sponsored by our Chairman, Alan Wood and our Course Director Dave Humphreys. Added to that, a ball sweep for the 2's so lots of members and visitors went home with a prize. The guests were all very complimentary about the course and a good day was had by all.
Sunday saw the playing of the Men vs. Ladies Novelty Match where the Ladies play from the White Medal Tees and the Men play from the Ladies Tees and with the Ladies getting an additional shot per hole. There were some notable "Dog Licence" wins for the Ladies in some of the early matches (for those of you unfamiliar with that phrase it means a 7&6 victory) but with one match left out on the course the Tie was standing equal with 5 ½ points each side. The last match was between Captain and Tom Strand and Lady Captain and Pam Lammiman. In a very close fought game played in good spirits, there were no fewer than 13 halved holes between them but in the end, Chris and Tom ran out narrow winners over Helen and Pam to ensure that it was a Blue Ribbon rather than a Pink one tied around the Badgers neck in the trophy cabinet for the next 12 months.
I'm sure the Ladies will be plotting their revenge for next years match.
Seniors News by John Maith - Seniors Captain In May there were 10 roll-ups, although one was effectively cancelled due to heavy rain, and we had an average of 38 players for each of the roll-ups. We had 50 entrants for the Saturday Trophy in early June with Bob Burgess winning with a creditable 42 points. We have now played 11 matches, with 8 wins 2 draws and 1 defeat at St.Ives. In the CAGU Seniors KO Cup we beat St. Ives at Brampton after a cracking match, and now play Menzies at their course in the Semi Final. This has to be played before 31st July. Captain's away days at Sprowston Manor were enjoyed by all with lovely weather and a testing course, and serious hangovers!! No football but at least I can look forward to another season in the Premier League
Pictured below the winning team and individual at recent Ronald McDonald House Charity Golf Day at Royal Birkdale held on Thursday 11th June.
Winning team score 89 points (best 2 from 4 scores 7/8 handicap). Team: Kevin Cartlidge, Jim Alsop, James Reeson & Garry Bingham. James also won the individual event with a magnificent 8 under par 64 playing off plus 2!!
Over £10k was raised for the charity on the day!
