Captain's Day - A Note of thanks
We had Captains Day on Saturday and the weather was fantastic and added to what was a very enjoyable day.
Played as a 4BBB with a twist…... the twist was that we had 2 holes on each green - one normal and one in a ridiculous position. In fact, some were barely on the greens! If you holed out in the ridiculous hole you would gain an extra Stableford point. But, despite the risk, most players seemed to favour the ridiculous holes rather than the normal ones! And great scores resulted.
In 1st place Steve Pinner and Mike McFadzean with a fantastic 60 pts. In 2nd place was Doug Poole and David Bartlett with 58 pts, and 3rd (on countback) with 57 pts, Peter North and Richard Scott.
My thanks go to all those that contributed to a very enjoyable Captains Day and one I will remember.
- Alisdair and his Team - for all their support and organisation on the day.
- Sarah and Kristina for their back room organisation and the above and beyond work in taking a broom to the · patio area before play...and co-ordinating all the catering.
- Hannah and Louis for seeing to all the members in the bar after the game in such a fine and efficient and pleasant fashion…and clearing up all the mess. ·
- Helen (Nell) and Lynda Hall for doing hours of starting
- Karen Cox and Anita White for attending the Cabin all day and ensuring every players game was enhanced with a beer!!!
- Veronica for a splendid BBQ
- Nick Meehan and his team for agreeing to put those ridiculous pins out and cutting the holes, probably against their better judgement!!!
- All 106 Players who turned out to support Captains Day!
In terms of prizes, as with Captains before me, I had a prize fund set aside. Unfortunately for those in the prizes, I severely depleted the fund by buying the club a new BBQ. So all they got was a sleeve of balls and a cheap bottle of Pinot Grigio!!! But all received their 'prize' with good grace.
Many thanks,
Chris Cuthbert

Skerry Ladies Challenge
Sunday 9th August saw the Skerry Ladies Challenge take place. The weather was fantastic for it and there was some really good golf played. Before the last 2 groups came in there were 4 people with 37 points and well in the running. Then the last 2 groups came in and changed it all. They would have had fantastic rounds. In 3rd place on count back from the many others with 37 was Fay Allison. In 2nd with a fantastic 38 points and well pleased as it is the best she has played for a long time (her words not mine) was Anita White. In first place with a stunning 43 points was Cath Emery.
Cath seen here with Jane Skerry whose parents are sponsors of the competition but unfortunately couldn't make it.
Thanks to both Jane Skerry and Jane McGlashan for doing the cards and sincere apologies to Jane Skerry who was supposed to have presented the cup.

Since my last report the juniors have played 5 matches, 2 league and 3 cup matches.
So in order League matches:
- Sunday 5th July we took on and beat St Neots Golf Club at home 3 1/2 to 2 1/2.
- Tuesday 28th July we lost heavily away to Saffron Walden 5 games to 1.
- Friendly Cup Semi-final (Category 3 + 4 golfers only, Greensomes matchplay ) Peterborough Milton brought a very strong team to the semi-final and beat us convincingly 3 - 0.
- St Ives Cup (Foursomes Matchplay) Semi-final we travelled to Ely on Sunday 26th July and beat a very strong home side 2 - 1 in atrocious weather conditions. The final was played at St Ives Golf Club Friday 7th August.
- After a confident start from our Junior section we struggled against a strong side from St Neots eventually losing 2 - 1.
So in summary for 2015 League matches, played 4, won 2, lost 2, as did all the clubs. Friendly Cup, lost in semi-final. St Ives Cup lost in final.
This completes the Junior section matches for 2015, there are still Junior Stablefords ( Thursday's ) and the Junior Club Championships on Saturday 5th September.
Many thanks,
Jon Edwards
