The Connemara Boys Return
We started with 25 and finished with 25 (if you include Donny Birmingham ), that in itself is a result. Some didn't manage to find the correct car park on arrival at Luton (Roger Valentine & Pat Doyle) but we managed in the end.
Paddy and his team arrived on schedule to pick us up from Knock Airport. Lunch followed and much was drunk, the first mistake was made by the Captain when he decided he and two others would leave lunch early to try to get 9 holes in on Thursday afternoon. We hadn't mentioned the drivers (Julian) disregard for the speed limits and all other things pertaining to the Irish Highway Code, they do have one I believe, Chris was soon buckled up and prepared for his ordeal.
We dined excellently at Foyles on Thursday night and then made for downtown Clifden where the welcome was as expected, 2am return to the hotel set us up brilliantly of the weekend ahead...
Friday arrived and so did the Sun and very little wind, all that said, we still lost but only narrowly, Friday night we dined at Tolly Cross, with oysters, salmon and Irish Lamb, the food was outstanding once again, we then made for downtown Clifden once again and made the same mistake, 2am return to the hotel again didn't set us up brilliantly for Saturday.
Saturday arrived and 12 pairs were sent out, we only lost 5 to 7 which set up the last day with the Irish leading 8 to 5. Saturday night allows the guys to make up their own minds as to what to do, the 21st birthday party roaming around Clifden seemed a good place to start, E J Kings had some great music on and won the day eventually.
Sunday and confidence was high, that didn't last long, the Irish playing in near perfect weather conditions won the day easily, I put it down to the fact that we had all drunk too much.....
Ron Cowper eventually won the Green Jacket for enjoying himself far to much and walking straight into Griffins pub door while it was still shut, they tried unsuccessfully to give it to me, my thanks to Clive Quick for that.
All in all one of the best tours ever, I have never known weather like it in all the years I have been going. I could go on but as you know what goes on tour stays on tour, Next year is the 25th match between the 2 clubs so will look to organise an evening and try to include as many of you as I can that have played any part in this annual match in the past.
My thanks must go to Paddy Flaherty and his team for their hospitality, it knows no bounds.
Next year's dates for your diaries are 21st - 23rd October inclusive.

Junior Vs Ladies
On Tuesday 27th October the Ladies v Juniors match took place. The weather started off a little foggy and overcast but turned into a lovely day.
The juniors were all there at 9:00am limbering up on the driving range. Not a lady to be seen. Hah we were wizened and didn't need to practice! People, let me tell you, this is a fallacy and only something lazy people think.
At the first I was short of a partner and was playing against Lewis Drewery and Robert McMaw. Jon mentioned they had just got their Congu handicap so if possible could they play off the yellows. I suggested (feeling slightly sorry for them) that they could play off the reds! Jon refused, and having gained Fay as my partner I am glad as they were tough opponents and I am sure would have thrashed me on my own and if they had gone off the reds.
The matches went well and on our part Fay and I kept thinking we were getting ahead only for Lewis and Robert to come back stronger.
But it was not to be. The practising got them so far but the ladies are tenacious and weren't going to let it go easily. The end result was a draw.
2 of the ladies team won and 2 of the juniors.
So bring it on for next year.
